Biography
The mezzo-soprano Ezgi Kutlu has recently made her debut at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg as Lucrecia in Alberto Ginasteras Betrix Cenci and as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Graz Opera in Austria, a CD Recording of this production will be released by Oehms Classics. Her engagements in 2018 included Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Maddalena in Rigoletto at the Stuttgart Opera and Juno in Semele at the Komische Oper Berlin.
After an engagement of two seasons from 2008 till 2010 with the Nürnberg Opera performing roles such as Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, Ezgi Kutlu has been singing with major opera Houses such as Stuttgart Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Frankfurt Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Rom Opera and St. Petersburg . Other engagements have taken Ezgi Kutlu to the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Edinburgh International Festival, Casa da Musica in Porto, Vlaamse Opera in Antwerpen, Garsington Opera in UK and the Royal Festival Hall in London with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her repertoire includes roles such as Cornelia (Giulio Cesare), Amastris (Xerxes), Juno (Semele), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Isabella (L’Italiana in Algeri), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Fenena (Nabucco), Maddalena (Rigoletto) and Carmen. Ezgi Kutlu worked with stage directors including Sebastian Baumgarten, Calixto Bieito, Lorenzo Fioroni, Stefan Herheim, Peter Konwitschny, Barrie Kosky, Christoph Waltz and with the team of Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito. She sang with conductors such as Maurizio Benini, Friedrich Haider, Axel Kober, Oksana Lyniv, Enrique Mazzola, Riccardo Muti, Henrik Nánási, David Parry, Kristina Poska, Christof Prick, Marc Soustrout and Sébastien Rouland.
Ezgi Kutlu received her vocal training at Bilkent University in Ankara, at The Juilliard School of Music in New York, as well as at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She has attended master classes with Barbara Bonney, Brigitte Eisenfeld, Marilyn Horne and Christa Ludwig. Ezgi Kutlu won several prizes in competitions such as Licia Albanese Competition and Marian Anderson Award. She was also a member of the first Young Singers Project in Salzburg Festival.
The next important role debut will be Storgè in Jephtha under the baton of Christian Curnyn with the stage direction of Richard Jones at the Komische Oper Berlin.
